Introduction of Web Programming 101

A Short Introduction of Web Programming

We use internet to find information almost everyday. With the development of information technology today, it is easier for us to find new information. The data is available in documents that we often call web pages. But have you ever thought about how to create a website? Let’s get to know web programming better.

What is Web Programming?

Web Programming is a term that is closely related to the internet and websites. It is true because web programming is the process of making a website for internet purposes. Many people know the web with the term WWW or World Wide Web.

The WWW is web pages connected or hyperlinks that form an ocean of information that runs with the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) protocol.

Most Common Programming Language

In all knowledge of programming, there must always be programming languages used. The programs create applications that contain statements, commands, or functions. Therefore, web programming also has many languages used, including:

Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)

First of all, HTML is not a programming language but a markup language. It only describes that certain parts of a web page are content that the browser must display in a certain way. In fact, HTML is an internet standard defined and controlled by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

Next, CSS is a stylesheet language to set the appearance of a document written in HTML. The most common use of CSS is to organize web pages written in HTML or XHTML. moreover, it has a CSS framework to add specific designs to web pages. That makes the page design is interesting to visit.

Hypertext Preprocessor (PHP)

Then, PHP programming language is a scripting language that a web developer must master. Because of its server-side scripting nature, you can’t just call files with PHP extensions to run the PHP programming language. The PHP programming language requires a webserver to run it. You can integrate PHP with HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, Ajax, and so on. However, in general, programmers use PHP programming language in conjunction with HTML files to perform various functions.

JavaScript is a scripting language that runs on the client-side. The script processing is done alone on the user’s computer. Usually, you use JavaScript to create animations and other interactive forms on web pages. Many JavaScript libraries help programmers to make web pages more interactive. To run scripts written in JavaScript, we need a browser that supports and can run JavaScript. Alternatively, it is a JavaScript-enabled browser.

Structured Query Language (SQL)

SQL is a domain-specific language used to process data in a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). Then, the most widely used RDBMS application by web application programmers to process their databases is MySQL.

You can use almost all programming languages in web programming. Some popular web programming languages include PHP, ASP.NET, Ruby on Rails, PERL, ASP classic, Python, and JSP. As long as these languages can work on a web server and create HTML, XML, and XHTML, you can make a website.
