Lifeguide Consultancy

Digitizing BaZi & Feng Shui into a Scalable SaaS Platform

Domain Logic ModelingProduct EngineeringSaaS Architecture

Executive Summary

Lifeguide Consultancy is a Singapore-based BaZi and Feng Shui practice built on traditional manual calculation methods.

BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny) is a traditional Chinese metaphysical system used to analyze personality traits, life cycles, compatibility, and auspicious timing based on a person’s birth year, month, day, and hour.

Kulkul Technology transformed this knowledge-based practice into a scalable SaaS platform. What was previously dependent on manual interpretation and spreadsheet references is now structured into a programmable calculation engine accessible through a subscription-based web application.

This transition enabled the client to move from purely practitioner-led services to a hybrid digital model—combining self-serve BaZi calculations, automated date selection tools, a premium Floor Plan module, and guided consultation scheduling within a single platform.

The result is a productized system that makes traditional expertise scalable and commercially repeatable.

Business Context

The client is an Indonesian-born consultant based in Singapore who studied BaZi and Feng Shui through traditional manual methods using classical reference books.

Over time, elemental data for dates, months, and years (1900–2022) was organized into spreadsheets. However, calculations and interpretations remained manual and dependent on practitioner expertise.

The client sought to transform this knowledge into a scalable digital platform that could:

  • Automate BaZi calculations
  • Provide structured decision tools for life events
  • Offer a premium Floor Plan analysis module
  • Enable subscription-based monetization
  • Allow users to self-serve before booking guided consultation

The objective was not only digitization, but productization of traditional expertise.

The Challenge

Knowledge Digitization & SaaS Productization

A knowledge-based practice constrained by manual execution and limited scalability.

Critical Constraint

Traditional calculation logic had to remain methodologically accurate while being translated into programmable system architecture.

The core challenge was translating traditional metaphysical logic into deterministic system architecture without compromising methodological integrity.

BaZi calculations involve multi-layered elemental interactions across year, month, day, and hour pillars. These relationships are traditionally interpreted by experienced practitioners rather than computed programmatically. Encoding this interpretative framework into structured, repeatable system logic required deep domain decomposition.

In addition to digitizing historical datasets (1900–2022), the system needed to support unlimited future-date projections. Each calendar date carries a unique combination of elemental attributes across cyclical year, month, and day patterns. These combinations follow complex calendrical cycles where repetition probability is low and structural consistency must be preserved.

Static rule-based extension was insufficient for long-term scalability. To address this, we developed a custom machine learning model trained on historical elemental mappings. The model identifies cyclical relationships and predicts future element combinations while maintaining alignment with traditional BaZi calendrical logic.

Another significant challenge involved digitizing Feng Shui floor plan analysis. Traditionally performed by manually marking printed architectural layouts, this spatial evaluation process had to be translated into an interactive digital environment.

The system ultimately required encoding both temporal logic (date-based cycles) and spatial logic (layout-based analysis) into a unified, scalable software platform.

Our Approach

We began with structured domain immersion. Weekly working sessions were conducted to understand how BaZi calculations are derived and interpreted manually.

The calculation framework was decomposed into programmable components, including:

  • Date-to-element mapping
  • Pillar generation logic
  • Element interaction modeling
  • Good and inauspicious day classification
  • Compatibility evaluation logic

Historical datasets were structured into machine-readable format. To extend usability beyond static historical ranges, we developed a machine learning-assisted model trained against historical patterns to generate consistent elemental mappings for future dates.

In parallel, we designed and implemented a premium Floor Plan module that digitizes Feng Shui spatial evaluation into an interactive canvas-based system.

The Solution

The final solution is a full-stack SaaS web application built from scratch using Ruby on Rails and React, deployed via Heroku with AWS infrastructure support.

Core capabilities include:

  • Automated BaZi calculation (birth date and hour)
  • Love and compatibility matching
  • Auspicious and inauspicious date evaluation
  • Life-event decision tools (marriage, proposal, childbirth, divorce, business timing, renovation, medical procedures, etc.)
  • Premium Floor Plan module for Feng Shui spatial analysis
  • Consultation scheduling
  • Subscription-based access control
  • Admin management system

The Floor Plan module allows users to upload residential layouts and conduct Feng Shui analysis within an interactive canvas. Users can annotate, mark zones, add text, and apply directional logic directly within the platform.

The system transforms traditional manual workflows into a structured, repeatable digital product.
